9/11 NEVER FORGET MOBILE EXHIBIT ARRIVES AT BATTERY PARK
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (May 5, 2016) – The 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit has officially arrived at Battery Park. The public exhibit will be displayed at Hard Rock Hotel Sioux City welcoming guests young and old as they pay tribute to the first responders and remember those who lost their lives nearly fifteen years ago. The exhibit will be open to the public May 5-11 in Battery Park and is free of charge.

The mobile exhibit arrived in Siouxland on Wednesday, May 4th. A welcoming procession for the exhibit led by first responders from the tristate area traveled from South Sioux City, across the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, and into downtown Sioux City where it was parked on display in Battery Park from May 5-11. Hundreds of Siouxland residents lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the patriotic exhibit as it was accompanied by firetrucks, ambulance, and freedom riders through the tristate area. Dedication ceremonies were held this morning at Battery Park to officially open the exhibit. The ceremony included multiple speakers, an Honor Guard flag presentation, and the playing of the National Anthem. Although unable to attend the opening today, Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds passed along the following sentiments. “We’re honored to hear that the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit is visiting Sioux City, Iowa. While we are unable to be there in person to view the exhibit, we’re thankful for the Siller family’s action to preserve the memory of their son and the thousands of others who gave their lives on that infamous day. We will never forget–and are pleased to hear that many Iowans will have the opportunity to pay tribute as well. May God continue to bless the families of those who lost their lives on that day.” In a letter from United States Senator Joni Ernst, she reflects on the 9/11 tragedies and the exhibit’s purpose. “It is hard to believe that it has been almost 15 years since the agonizing and heart wrenching events of September 11th, 2001. The Exhibit will provide an opportunity for Siouxlanders to reflect on this fateful day, and it will serve as a powerful educational tool for future generations.” Entrance into the exhibit is free of charge. Area schools have been scheduled to tour the exhibit with over 2,000 students scheduled to attend. To lead visitors through the exhibit, four New York fire fighters will be guiding tours and speaking about their personal experience as first responders at the 9/11 attack in New York. “Not since the bombing of Pearl Harbor has our nation experienced such a traumatic event on American soil,” said Iowa Congressman Steve King. “But in the face of terror, heroes like Stephen Siller have met the challenges before them with honor and selfless acts of courage. The first responders will never be forgotten because of the efforts of the Siller family.” About the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit Stephen Siller, a New York Firefighter, was there on 9/11. He gave his life helping others. In return his family established the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation – in his honor and in his memory. In September 2013, the Foundation dedicated the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit. Welcomed around the country, this mobile exhibit – a high-tech, 53-foot tractor-trailer, which unfolds into a 1,100 square foot exhibit – serves as a poignant reminder of that infamous day. Through the presentation of artifacts, including actual steel beams from the towers, documentary video, recordings of first-responder radio transmissions, as well as guided tours by FDNY firefighters, people will learn what took place and the ultimate sacrifice so many made on that day.
