HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO SIOUX CITY RECEIVES APPROVAL FROM CITY ON “BATTERY PARK” PLANS
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (March 16, 2015) – Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City’s plans to upgrade their outdoor concert venue into the more functional and much improved “Battery Park” have been approved. On Monday, March 16 the City Council voted and gave the $850,000 project a thumbs up. Construction on Battery Park, named for the historic building Hard Rock restored for their hotel, will begin immediately.
The redesign will add 102 parking spaces to alleviate a current parking shortage for the entertainment destination. The plan also includes an expanded restaurant patio, beer garden, new landscaping, and decorative street lamps. By reconfiguring the space, Hard Rock will add approximately 1,000 concert seats and erect a high-tech sound barrier for outdoor shows.
“We couldn’t be more excited about Battery Park and we’re glad the city saw its value to the community,” said General Manager Todd Moyer. “Downtown needs the extra parking, and the space will have so much more to offer our guests. The upgrade will be more beautiful and more functional than what we currently have.”
Moyer noted Battery Park is about more than extra parking spaces and new landscaping. The redesign will allow for more shows and events at higher capacity than The Backyard afforded, which Hard Rock hopes will draw in more visitors to downtown Sioux City. Hard Rock will look to hire an estimated 60 to 100 new part-time, seasonal team members to help run the outdoor venue.
“The plan just makes sense, and we thank the City for allowing us to move forward,” Moyer reiterated. “Battery Park will provide a more functional, inviting place not only for outdoor concerts, but also for family and community events in downtown Sioux City. The parking is an added bonus.”
